NATIVE TO THIS LAND

NATIVE TO THIS LAND is an intimate

portrait series by MISTER LYNCH

that honors the living legacy of

Native culture, its people, and the regalia

they wear. Photographed in site-specific studios

at Pow Wows across the United States,

this ongoing body of work captures

the rich traditions, individuality, and pride of

Indigenous communities through

striking, dignified portraiture.

A young man dressed in traditional Native American ceremonial attire, including a colorful beaded shirt and a large feathered headdress with red and white feathers, against a black background.

The most historic chapter to

date documents the first Lenape

Pow Wow held the island of Manhatta

(the original Lenape Name for the land- which

we now know as Manhattan)

in over 300 years. Granted exclusive

access to this powerful moment,
Lynch created a private portrait studio
inside the Park Avenue Armory, capturing
the return of the land’s original stewards.

Each portrait in this series is
both a contemporary collaboration

and timeless document, preserving identity,

resilience, and cultural pride for future

generations to see and honor.
